Continuity Clinic
Most inpatients are discharged to the resident's own outpatient clinic (General Medicine Clinic, or GMC), ensuring continuity of care The resident becomes the patient's primary doctor, seeing him of her for the remainder of the residency training period.
All residents have a half-day session in the GMC all three years. PGY1's see about 4 patients per session, PGY2's see 6-8 patients per session, and PGY3's see 8 or more patients per session. They gain experience managing both acute and long-term problems in this setting. There is no GMC scheduled during the MICU rotation.
