| PROTECTING SUBJECTS |
| |
| Expectations about the ethical treatment of living beings involved
in research -- whether human or not -- place a burden on researchers
which must be taken seriously. In addition to understanding the ethical
principles underlying research subject protection, investigators must know
about and follow an elaborate set of rules and regulations.
For research with human subjects, these expectations are summarized
in the "Guidelines for Research Investigators".

For research with animal subjects, procedures followed in overseeing such
research are summarized in the Hektoen Institute, LLC, Multiple
Project Assurance for the Protection of Vertebrate Animal Subjects.
