Collaborative  Rush/Cook County Hospital Research Fund

Request for Proposals

(Sponsored by the Rush/Cook County Affiliation Research Committee)

The Rush/Cook County Affiliation Research Committee, comprised of faculty representatives from Rush Medical College and Cook County Hospital, was formed in 1995 to foster cooperation and communication in developing joint research activities.

The collaborative research fund, established in 1997, supports research programs that are exclusively collaborative between Cook County Hospital and Rush investigators. The funds may be utilized to support new, collaborative, basic and clinical science, health services research, and epidemiological programs that are limited in scope and are well focused to produce pilot data sufficient to attract extramural funding. These grants are for one year of funding, and with a budgetary limit of $10,000 per project.

The Details

The Program

The program is designed to support research that is exclusively collaborative between the two institutions. The intent of the program is to facilitate the development of new clinical and basic research programs. Collaboration is broadly defined to include any project with substantive participation of investigators from both institutions.

Who May Apply

Fellows and faculty members with full-time appointments at either institution may apply. All proposals must have at least one faculty participant from each institution.

Scope of Funding
Grants are limited to a maximum of $10,000 per project. Support will typically include staff, small equipment and supplies. Requests for investigator salary support are discouraged.

Types of Research That are Eligible

The program is limited to new projects that are truly collaborative; within these limits, all forms of fundamental, clinical and epidemiological projects are eligible. Programs should be well focused and designed to produce significant results after the one year funding period so that extramural funding can be sought to continue the research effort.

Review of Proposals

Review of the proposals for eligibility and scientific merit will be conducted by a subcommittee of the Rush-Cook County Hospital Research Committee. This subcommittee will consist of members from both institutions; additional outside consultants may also be asked to review proposals.

Letter of Intent

Interested candidates should submit a letter of intent (no longer than two pages in length) to the Committee describing briefly the Specific Aims of the proposal and the names of all collaborative investigators. The letter should include an explicit statement describing the collaborative nature of the project. Fellows must identify a senior investigator who will serve as mentor. Letters may be submitted to the Committee electronically via e-mail; if submitting by mail, please include a disk version. See contact information below.

Format for the Proposal

Detailed instructions for formatting the proposal will be included in the Invitation for Full Application
