| Exciting opportunity to join our clinical research unit in Chicago. The position is in the Cook County Health and Hospitals System, which includes Stroger Hospital of Cook County (formerly Cook County Hospital), a community-based hospital, a rehabilitation hospital and an ambulatory network including more than 20 community health centers. The setting provides an unparalleled culturally-diverse and large patient population.
The Collaborative Research Unit began in 1998. The members of the unit conduct studies in clinical and community settings aimed at improving the quality of health and medical care for the population of Cook County. The investigators also serve as a resource to the institutional faculty, providing research methods and information technology assistance and consultation.
We are seeking an individual with at least 2 years research experience and strong quantitative skills in Clinical Epidemiology, Health Services/Outcomes Research or Health Economics. Individuals need to be sincerely interested in working collaboratively with other researchers as well as developing research skills in motivated colleagues.
Protected research time (up to 80%) is funded with hard money. Clinical service opportunities (approximately 20%) are focused on provision of care to general medicine inpatients. There will be an appropriate faculty appointment at Rush University.
The current Collaborative Research Unit includes four physician investigators, four full-time information technology/data management specialists, and an office administrator.

Web Developer/Coordinator (Job Class 2845)

| Job Summary: |
The Web Developer/Coordinator is a technical
and administrative staff position under the supervision of the Systems
Administrator, responsible for a wide variety of Web-related, and security
technical and support duties within the Department of Medicine. The
Web Developer/Coordinator is responsible for the ongoing management of web
and security activities in support of the Department of Medicine’s
quality improvement initiatives including its several Divisions.
This management position will advise departmental senior staff with
regard to feasibility and limitations of web-based and programming Quality
Improvement activities, security, technical integrity, new technologies,
connectivity requirements between Internet, intranet, LAN, WAN, and
other administration issues. Supervises the coordination of institutional
Web based initiatives among the several Divisions of the Department
of Medicine and the Department of Information Services.

| Job Duties and Responsibilities: |
Duties include but are not limited to
the following:
- Analyzes current information
systems to make recommendations to the System Administrator and decision
makers on the most efficient utilization of web technologies and groupware
to streamline Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Departmental
business processes;
- Coordinates the Web and Groupware
Development initiatives among all Divisions within the Department of
Medicine;
- Effectively plans, monitors
and executes multi-disciplined PC/Web development projects and completes
projects on time. Understands project life-cycle development, including
but not limited to scheduling projects, estimating costs, writing proposals,
understanding scope, managing risk, managing procurement and utilizing
project integration techniques.
- Develops and implements a
comprehensive strategy to guarantee the security of the system (monitors
network traffic to prevent attacks; designs an effective strategy to
update servers with the latest hot fixes, patches and virus definitions)
- Analyzes and monitors PC and
Web based applications and recommends programming changes as necessary.
Continually evaluates source data for accuracy and integrity.
- Tests and troubleshoots developed
and third-party PC and web based applications systems, including but
not limited to ERAS, Residency Program Evaluation Systems, and Departmental
Intranet, and Internet web sites;
- Safeguards confidential Data
from unauthorized access. Understands and implements security certificates,
128-bit encryption, or the latest available security tools to protect
HIPAA regulated data;
- Stays abreast of industry
trends and all applicable technologies, integrating new technologies
into PC and web based applications.
- Administers web servers and
monitors web traffic; Reviews and analyzes results obtained from the
use of web systems;
- Assists in the development
of training methods and materials and instructs users in the operation
of web and groupware applications;
- Upgrades network hardware
and software components as required.
- Provides users with web and
groupware applications support.

Qualifications:
|
Minimum qualifications include
- B.S. Degree with major in
Computer Science, Information Systems, Management Information Systems,
or related field and at least 2 years experience working in a position
with similar web and groupware responsibilities.
- This position requires a deep
understanding of web-based technologies and design related applications
such as HTML, FrontPage, Share Point, VBScript, ASP.NET(C#), PHP, TCP/IP, Crystal
Reports, OLAP services, VPN, IIS, W2K Active Directory, DNS, SSL, TTL,
Kerberos, ISA, MS Exchange, Security Certificates, Photoshop, Acrobat,
Visio, and Illustrator.
- Familiarity with JavaScript,
XML, SQL, C++, CGI, PERL, Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks, Freehand, and
Shockwave Director.
- Exposure to medical terminology
and processes;
- Ability to identify user requirements
through interviews, research, and document requirements and develop
web-based applications to satisfy customer requirements.
- Excellent visual, oral and
written communication skills are required.
- Proficient using Microsoft
Office Suite (front and back-ends) in a W2K-XP environment.
- Ability to install and operate
computers, peripheral equipment, and software and to diagnose problems
and make recommendations;
- Ability to learn quickly to
stay aware of new trends in Information Technology.
